Off to Ontario or Ottawierd as my friend calls it

I am running around getting everything ready for a trip to the Ontario Council Of Folk Festivals. I have a few shows, dates are on my website and and few talks to go to. I love these conferences , it is kind of like university all over again. I am so isolated from the scene, living up here in Sechelt (music is happening here but is more a hobby for everyone) Someone told me that is a good thing cause there is a lot of baloney going on in the cities and my mind is probably clearer for it. Biggest obstacle is packing, figuring out what to wear is tricky, not over or under packing, ect...I am procrasti-blogging as we speak. I always hope that some last minute, natural fibre lightneing bolt of inspiration is going to hit in a shade that compliments my skin.

Second pressing

Today I finalised my order for a second pressing of " the girl who passed for normal". Feels good. I am also practising like a mofo to get ready for this big festival. I also went to Eva's spa and got my toes painted bright pink, a facial and a massage. Her spa is top notch. I would recommend it alongside some of the best I have been to. After I finish my blog I am going to tuck into a big buffalo chili I made for dinner. Buffalo is one of my current favorites, a little more flavor and less fat and bad mojo than beef. Nothing like a buffalo steak cooked over the fire, no utensils just a knife and juice running down your arm into the ground. I read in the reluctant messiah about remembering to do what you want, and if everybody did the world would be allot happier place. hmmm

I bought my plane tickets to Australia yesterday. That makes it real eh? Nice thing is too that Stevie and I fly at the same time and it is a direct flight. I also spent hours on the phone sorting out school stuff on the phone. It is difficult for me to talk to the school people without getting snotty. They are so politically minded, make no sense or commit to anything really meaningful. Alot of " wait and see, bla bla" , I will speak to them ...bla bla" Arg , all I can say to Bili is just get through it and remember it is an excellent experiment on getting along with people you would rather not, and that it will come up again and again in life. I wish I had had more fun with authority at school, let them know what I really thought. I was always so serious and fearful of getting grounded that I never let the air out of the tires of the teacher that wanted me to come over for " extra " help. That same teacher also stole a tape I made for a history project on the blues. I sure wish I had blown the whistle on him when I went to his house to ask for it back and he came to the door in a robe holding a cognac, and invited me in for a drink. LOL.

Things have been rather stressful lately, and Zoe has a grad coming up so my darling Pat traded a pump out for spa time. Faster than you can say brochure, I made an appointment at Eva's day spa for next Wednesday. Pedicure, facial and a massage. Yuppers. Pat pretty much rules. I will report back on the experience. the sunshine coast does have it luxury's. I am off to drive my girl to school . It is blowing and rainy and she is made of sugar...nothing worse than sitting in class with wet jeans all day. Gives me an opportunity to hit starbucks before I go to the Pruden's and work on the new hydrogen website. Check it out we a going to update www.hydrogenprodevel.com to include info on the inefficiency of hydrogen buses and that hydrogen is not a viable energy storage medium for the futur .

Today is my daughter Bili's art lesson. She goes to Maurice every week for a couple hours to learn figure drawing. He is great character, lives in the woods with a wood stove and no t.v. has a lovely garden and a canvas filled house with paint splatters everywhere.
Also today my friend ED is finishing up re staining my beautiful deck. It looks gorgeous, he used tongue oil and it brought out the warmth of the wood. Looks so pretty with all the wrought iron furniture and candelabra.
Australia is getting close. I see there is a sale on plane tickets today so I have put the squeeze on Stevie to settle on some dates. He is in New York working on the Smithsonian History of Native American Music Exhibit. He told me that yesterday he was chatting on the phone with Ringo Starr. I hope I get an invite to the big opening party...YUP!
We are going to go rehearse in Hawaii for a few days then fly off to Australia. The program is up on the dreaming festival website , it looks beautiful. Well I am going to hole up in my studio and practice practice... girl guitar hero out. =)

Acupuncture

Today I went for my third acupuncture at the Lotus House here in Sechelt . It feels a little strange but it seems to be working. It was weird watching the needles sticking out of my feet tick tock with my heartbeat. I could feel them when I closed my eyes and even feel ones that were not there. She is trying to cure dampness. which is the root cause of what ails me, other than the stress of not knowing what is going to happen with my new record. I mean I thought a FACTOR grant was just about fool proof to counter my curse of the un released record....Apparently fate found a loop hole and now the loan has gone into default by the company that applied for it. It is to be released by E.M.I on the 1st of June... crossing my needles =)

Har har Ms Panic , start again...start again

Summer in Toronto

I have been staying in Toronto for the summer, I needed a change and really wanted to make some in roads in finishing my new album. I had the fortune of being the first project completed at the fabulous new facility Jukasa in six nations. People ask me what it is like out there...like a fancy hotel with a fancy studio attached... The 72 chanell ssl board is from abbey roads studio 3...The artwork is done and the title of the album is " Out on a limb", there will be a video produced by Big Soul productions to follow.

I should have been blogging all summer. it has been a great one.
I just finished playing planetindigenoUS this past weekend. It is a huge festival on the Toronto Harbourfront. Indigenous acts from all over the world were performing. Christal Shawanda, Derek Miller, Tracy Bone, Lucy Idlout, Asani, Pacific curls, Cheryl l'Hirondelle, Joeseph Naytowhow and the list goes on... Next weekend they do it all over again ..Plex will be there !

So I am sitting here tongue tied. I am forced to witness the rise yet again of some gay music that is supposed to be all spiritual and path walking and I want to puke. Honestly I love it when someone has something real to say about life. Not timidly rehashing the same old positive gospel purple wearing walking in beauty. COME ON Life is hard , life is a struggle, it is painful and ecstatic. I am not going to tell you gratuitously uplifting things to inspire you to walk in beauty. I will however do what I say I am going to do... I wish I could meet more people like me.I am about reality, loving, excess, laughing, vanity, pain, and the screaming dirty sexiness that wakes up me up every morning and says ..." Janet what we gonna do today?"I am watching my 13 year old daughter go through peoples flakiness and her being disappointed in her authority figures general lack of integrity. Not to mention their suspicion and jealousy over how beautiful inside and out she is...All I can do is reassure her that she is not crazy and that in life I think it is best to take a non attachment view of things . Be self reliant, self loving and have integrity. Be yourself..."Who is myself ", she asks "Everyone says I am just like my grama that I have my father's mouth and temper and my mother's eyes and musical ability...Who am I?"
Smart kid...

Pin-up of the day...

So I am almost done with facebook. Too much from too many that happens too fast. I am going to concentrate on this instead. See if my rambling on-line diary will be interesting to anyone but me.
I just came from the computer doctor who says it will be 100$ to fix my puter. Bummer. Careful about saying yes to a " microsoft virus alert update". It will mess your puter bad. It acts like an anti virus then asks for money and won't x out...bastards!! People need to get a better hobby. I suggest to all considering malevolent behaviour to read " The War of Art", Steven Pressfield. He talks about people resisting their soul's work desire and becoming resentful and negative. A brilliant elaboration/extrapolation of the old " If you had a million what would you do " question...
I regards to my glamourous music career , Big Soul is starting location scouting for my " Out on a limb Video" I will hear more soon...They are deep in "Digging Roots " video production as we speak, so I am standing by for updates. Still no word from Arbor records yet about when the record is coming out..or even getting finished.
Mike Latschislaw took this picture. I love it, always wanted to have a pin up of myself. So darn cute. It was taken at his now "x "studio in the exchange district in Winnipeg Manitoba.
My daughter and I are going to see Wolverine at the Raven's Cry Theatre tonight. It is a good behaviour award for the end of her week long grounding, for having boys in the house when I was out. Kids ; )
